On Friday, Saavn, the music streaming service exclusively previewed a
new music sharing feature at the ongoing India Today Conclave in New
Delhi. Speaking at the Conclave, Saavn's COO Mahesh Narayanan showcased
the feature.
"The future of music on Saavn is going to be a lot
more personal. It's going to be launched in the next couple of weeks.
When the celebrity adds a new song, all the followers get a
notification," said Narayanan.
The new feature will notify users
when a celebrity adds a new song in playlist. Apart from this, users
will also be able to share their songs with their friends at a tap of a
button.
Saavn, which has been compared to music streaming services like Spotify in the West has become very popular in India.
Narayanan also claimed that India had already transitioned from CDs to streaming medium.
"India
has moved from CDs to streaming. It is unlimited, it is free and high
quality," he said. "More importantly, it is legal," he added.
Streaming
is starting to take off in India. There are multiple options for modern
smartphone users which include services like Rdio, Gaana.com and iTunes
Music.
4G connectivity, which is expected to enter India in a
big way in 2015 could further enhance the adoption of streaming services
in India.
