Japanese tech major Sony has started rolling out the Android 5.0
Lollipop update for its high-end Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact
smartphones from March 16. The company took to its official support page
to make the formal announcement for the roll out.
"We're starting our Android 5.0, Lollipop upgrade from today for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact." Sony said.
According
to the company, the update will first hit devices in the Nordics and
Baltics, before continuing to further markets "for more Xperia Z Series
products, starting in around two weeks time." Clearly, not everyone will
be receiving the update at the same time, but it will be gradually
rolled out in a phased manner by the company.
Moreover, as per
Sony, rest of the devices in the company's premium Xperia Z range should
be getting the update in the entire premium Xperia Z series that
includes devices like the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet
Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2,
Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
India
is expected to get the updated for the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact in the
next few days, although we don't have an exact date from Sony for the
same.
The company has also detailed some of the key
changes/improvements users will be receiving post the Lollipop update.
These include: Google's much-talked about material design with Sony's
"minimalistic approach to interface and application design", redesigned
notifications and lock screen, addition of multi user profiles and guest
mode and the introduction of Android for Work among others.
That
said the future of Sony's non-Xperia Z range of devices is uncertain at
the moment with respect to the Lollipop update. The company while
responding to a Sony Xperia M2 user query regarding the update had
earlier hinted that the Lollipop update might also come to other Sony
devices, but there is no certainty for the same.
Thank You For Visting......
