After giving a boost to its prime members by launching free
unlimited photo storage on Cloud Drive, Amazon seems to be on expansion mode
with more benefits. Now the company is expanding it as a paid service offering
to cover other kinds of content to the users outside of its loyalty program.
Amazon's 'Unlimited Cloud Storage' will offer users
everything from photo storage to music, videos to PDF documents and 'everything
unlimited' for $11.99 or $59.99 per year respectively. Those who want a trial
of it can do so for free for the three months.
With this move, Amazon has stepped into a competition with
the Dropbox, Google, Microsoft and others in the crowded market for cloud-based
storage services.
However, Amazon is not the first to offer unlimited storage,
but it seems like the first who has made the service for all who want it.
Director of Amazon Cloud Drive Josh Petersen in a statement
has said that most people have a lifetime of birthdays, vacations, holidays,
and everyday moments stored across numerous devices and they don't know how
many gigabytes of storage they need to back all of them up.
"With these two new plans customers don't need to worry
about storage space-they now have an affordable, secure solution to store
unlimited amounts of photos, videos, movies, music, and files in one convenient
place," he has said.
Here are the details from Amazon:
Unlimited Photos Plan (free 3-month trial, then $11.99 per
year-equivalent of less than $1 per month):
You can store an infinite number of photos in Cloud Drive
without worrying about taking up space on phones, cameras, or other devices.
Customers can upload existing collections and store all
future photos taken. This plan also includes 5 GB of additional storage for
videos or other documents and files.
