Apple on Monday announced a new MacBook, its lightest and thinnest
MacBook ever, at an event in San Francisco. The new MacBook, which has
been christened MacBook (no Air or Pro or any other tags attached to
it), has a 12-inch screen. But it is thinner and lighter than even the
11-inch MacBook Air.
Unlike the TN screens with regular resolution
in the existing MacBook Air, the new machine also has the IPS screen
with high resolution of 2304 x 1440 pixels. In sum this makes the
display on the new MacBook almost as good as the display on an iPad,
which means text will look extremely sharp on it and colours will be
vibrant.
The lower resolution screen was the biggest complaint users had with the MacBook Air.
The new MacBook will be available in India from April 10. It will cost
Rs.99,900
for the basic model, which will have Intel Core M processor running at
1.1GHz base speed, 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. For a price of
Rs.1,19,900 consumers will be able to buy the model that will have Core M processor running at 1.2GHz and 512GB internal storage.
Apple said that to come up with the thinner and lighter MacBook it redesigned almost every aspect of MacBook.
"Apple
has reinvented the notebook with the new MacBook, and at just two
pounds (around 900 grams) and 13.1 mm, it's the thinnest and lightest
Mac ever," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of
Worldwide Marketing. "Every component of the MacBook reveals a new
innovation. From its fanless design, ultra-thin Retina display and
full-size keyboard that's 34 per cent thinner, to its all-new Force
Touch trackpad, versatile USB-C port and breakthrough terraced battery
design, the new MacBook is the future of the notebook."
New MacBooks updated
Apart from announcing the redesigned MacBook, Apple also announced an update to its existing laptops.
"Today
the popular 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, 11-inch MacBook
Air and 13-inch MacBook Air all received significant upgrades," said
Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
"The 13-inch MacBook Pro has been updated with the latest processors,
more powerful graphics, faster flash, longer battery life and the
all-new Force Touch trackpad. We're also bringing the latest processors
and graphics, and faster Thunderbolt 2 to the 11-inch and 13-inch
MacBook Air, as well as two times faster flash to the 13-inch MacBook
Air."
Additionally, the 13-inch MacBook Pro also gets the new
touchpad that has been used in the new Macbook. This means it will also
support the Force Touch technology as well as improved gesture
recognition.
